The breach involved stolen contact data from 5.1 million unique accounts via an SSO exploit tied to a broader vishing campaign, according to Have I Been Pwned.
- 5.1 million accounts were identified by Have I Been Pwned as affected in the Panera Bread breach, not 14 million customers as earlier reports suggested.
- Using voice phishing, the attackers targeted Microsoft Entra SSO and other providers in a campaign hitting more than 100 organizations, with ShinyHunters saying files leaked after extortion failed.
- BleepingComputer found a nearly 760 MB archive on the dark-web leak site containing contact details and more than 26,000 panerabread.com employee emails.
- Panera has notified authorities and confirmed the breached data are contact details, though it has not filed public breach notifications; employees were previously told about a June 2024 breach after a March ransomware attack.
- Have I Been Pwned reported last week the campaign affected 29.8 million accounts, while Match Group confirmed limited data theft after ShinyHunters leaked around 10 million records.
