Padres’ Marinaccio and Stammen disciplined for hitting Orioles batter Henderson with a pitch
Major League Baseball issued a three-game suspension to San Diego Padres pitcher Ron Marinaccio on Monday, June 15, following a June 13 incident involving Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson.
Michael Hill, MLB senior vice president for on-field operations, determined Marinaccio intentionally hit Henderson during the ninth inning of the 9-3 victory at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Padres manager Craig Stammen was also disciplined, receiving a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine after arguing with umpires following the ejection of his starter from Saturday's contest.
Stammen served his suspension Monday during the team's visit to the St. Louis Cardinals, whereas Marinaccio chose to appeal, postponing the start of his three-game penalty.
Hill noted the 30-year-old athlete remains eligible to compete for San Diego until the appeal is resolved, effectively delaying the start of his three-game suspension.
