Minnesota built a 2-0 lead on second-period goals from Danila Yurov and Maxim Shabanov, staking the Wild to a commanding position entering the third period.
Noah Ostlund and Tage Thompson scored six minutes apart in the third to tie the game; Colten Ellis stopped 18 shots while Jesper Wallstedt recorded 25 saves.
Minnesota coach John Hynes said, "We just weren't as sharp, I thought, in the third on some coverages," as the Wild fell to 2-0-1 on the season.
The Wild continue their road trip Thursday at the Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Sabres host the Dallas Stars on the same night.
