- The Environmental Justice Foundation analyzed five product categories using the PlastChem database, identifying 4,200 chemicals as "highly hazardous" to human health among 16,000 total substances.
- Almost 92% of food-contact plastics and nearly 89% of children's toys contain high-risk chemicals, while nearly 80% of the 3,552 chemicals in common plastics lack sufficient toxicity data.
- More than 50% of these high-risk chemicals remain unregulated by major jurisdictions including the European Union, while "forever chemicals" like PFAS and bisphenols are linked to premature death and organ toxicity.
- The American Chemistry Council advised "considerable caution" regarding the findings, while pediatrician Dr. Philip Landrigan said the report shows how plastics are "infiltrating their lives in ways that they didnt realize.
