Electrician's Death After June Incident at Mizzou Stadium Renovation Under Investigation
OSHA opened a fatality investigation after Corey Lee Sooter died during work at the stadium construction site, where records cited a reported electrocution.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of Corey Lee Sooter, 44, who died on June 10, 2026, following a workplace accident at the University of Missouri's Memorial Stadium construction site.
Columbia Fire Department records indicate responders were dispatched to Memorial Stadium on June 5 for a reported electrocution involving energized wires; Sooter was working as a foreman for BK2 Electrical during the incident.
BK2 Electrical described Sooter as a mentor and leader who worked with integrity, while the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers noted the Holts Summit resident is survived by his wife, Angela, and four children.
OSHA opened an inspection into the incident on June 11, which remains open as of Monday, August 10, with officials stating they have six months to complete the investigation.
Construction continues on the $250 million North End Zone project, scheduled for completion before the Tigers' 2026 season-opening game on Thursday, September 3, coinciding with Memorial Stadium's 100th anniversary.
