Federal Wildlife Officer Dies While Helping Evacuate Residents From Oklahoma Wildfire

- Evidence recovered from a structure where Taylor was working indicates he died during the evacuation effort. Before his federal wildlife role, Taylor served a 20-year military career in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve.
- Comanche County and Lawton Emergency Management officials confirmed the wildfire was under control by Sunday, and evacuation orders have been lifted. Federal agencies are coordinating support for Taylor's family and coworkers.
- While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge stated, "Everything we know about David's actions reflects extraordinary courage, selflessness and devotion to duty." Formal identification remains pending.
