Oregon lawmakers approve more than $120 million to cover cost of 2026 wildfires
Oregon lawmakers approved nearly $123 million to fund two state agencies responsible for fighting this year’s wildfires.
The Joint Emergency Board allocated $108 million to the Oregon Department of Forestry and $15 million to the State Fire Marshal.
By late August, wildfires burned 2.5 million acres and cost $236.2 million, with total costs expected to reach $350 million by the end of the season.
Rep. David Gomberg stated that funding wildfires will take dollars from schools, healthcare, housing, and public safety while awaiting federal reimbursement.
