- On Tuesday, BJP MLAs and JD MLAs began an overnight sleep-in at Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, demanding the resignation of Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapur amid corruption allegations.
- Following a January 16 Lokayukta raid that caught Naik and two aides accepting Rs 25 lakh, Leader of Opposition R. Ashok alleged a ₹6,000 crore scam in the department.
- Opposition MLAs read alleged audio transcripts citing an ₹18 lakh demand and claimed bribes would be passed to Mr. Thimmapur and his son Vinay, vowing to continue the sit-in.
- Chief Minister Siddaramaiah pushed back, saying allegations alone don't warrant resignation, while Senior Minister K.H. Muniyappa urged letting the Lokayukta probe finish before action since it concerns officials and an officer was suspended.
- With Wednesday the final day of the special session, expect further confrontation as an unnamed suspended Excise officer faces probe while Mr. Thimmapur defends his tenure.
