- Following a United States pilot in February, OpenAI expanded its ad platform through Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Brazil. This systematic international scaling aims to capture global ad spend ahead of the company's ambitious $100 billion revenue goal.
- With roughly 20% of queries showing direct commercial intent, the AI-powered chatbot surpassed 900 million weekly active users. OpenAI added that "Ads in ChatGPT are always clearly labelled and separate from ChatGPT," ensuring user conversations remain private from advertisers.
- Under the General Data Protection Regulation, European Union regulators require explicit consent for personalized targeting. OpenAI detailed its data processing approach for the region in a new privacy policy, which the company published on August 14 to ensure compliance.
- OpenAI targets $100 billion in revenue within four years, a goal that took Meta 17 years to reach. Meanwhile, rival Anthropic has leveraged its pledge to remain ad-free as a marketing tool to compete for users.
