5 Ontario Liberal Leadership Candidates Set to Face Off Monday
Five candidates will debate as online voting runs Nov. 9-20 before Ontario Liberals choose a new leader Nov. 21.
On Monday, five candidates vying to lead the Ontario Liberal Party will face off in their first official debate at a Brampton studio starting at 7 p.m. ET, replacing Bonnie Crombie who resigned in January.
The leadership field includes former federal minister Navdeep Bains, MPPs Stephanie Bowman and Lee Fairclough, housing advocate Eric Lombardi, and political advisor Dylan Marando, bringing diverse professional backgrounds to the race.
Party official Fraser advised candidates to stay authentic, saying "The most important thing I think is to be authentic," with online voting set to begin November 9 and conclude November 21.
Contenders aim to provide an alternative to Premier Doug Ford; Fairclough prioritizes healthcare access while Marando focuses on public sector accountability and housing strategies to reinvigorate Queen's Park.
This debate initiates a months-long campaign defining the party's future direction before the November 21 leadership vote, a critical step for the Liberals to rebuild their platform ahead of the next provincial election.
