One person dies in collision involving car and train at level crossing
A collision at Dimmocks Cote level crossing caused one fatality and one minor injury, disrupting rail services between Waterbeach and Ely until late afternoon, police said.
On Tuesday, British Transport Police were called at around 10.15am to reports of a collision at Dimmocks Cote level crossing in Ely, where a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and ask witnesses to text BTP on 61016 quoting reference 198 of March 3.
Another person is receiving treatment for minor injuries following the collision, and the A1123 Newmarket Road is closed in both directions while the incident is dealt with.
Rail passengers are facing major disruption after no trains run between Cambridge and Ely, with services suspended until at least 4pm.
Authorities say inquiries will focus on identifying the deceased and informing next of kin, while police urge witnesses to text 61016 quoting reference 198 of March 3.
