One Person Dead After 2‑alarm Highrise Fire in Scarborough
Firefighters contained the blaze to one unit, and police and the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating the cause after one resident died.
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, one person died following a two-alarm fire on the 16th floor of a building near Neilson Road and McLevin Avenue in Scarborough.
Firefighters arrived within three minutes of the reported blaze, upgrading the incident to a two-alarm fire and containing flames to the residential unit.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Fitzgerald confirmed paramedics pronounced one person dead at the scene after finding them without vital signs, with no additional injuries reported.
Investigators from Toronto Fire are working alongside Toronto police and the Ontario fire marshal to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
Commuters are urged to use alternate routes as police closed McLevin Avenue between Neilson Road and Hupfield Trail, while residents await permission to return.
