'One of the Kindest People': Taraneh, 21, Facing Execution in Iran
- After turning 21 behind bars, Taraneh Rahimi was sentenced to death on charges of "waging war against God," while her twin sister, Romina Rahimi, received a 36-year prison sentence following their arrest for participating in protests in Isfahan.
- The twins were arrested after participating in anti-government rallies in Isfahan's Shohada Square, where authorities accused them of involvement in deaths of a Revolutionary Guards member and a homeless person during the unrest.
- According to cousin Masoud Nourmohammadi, interrogators tortured the twins to force confessions, threatening "If you do not sign this confession, we will rape your sister in front of you." Lawyers lacked case file access, and authorities denied Taraneh hospitalization for knee injuries.
- Rights groups report Iran has executed 29 people in connection with protests, with at least 100 currently sentenced to death. Human Rights Watch described the proceedings as a "relentless attack on the right to life."
- Activists warn the Islamic Republic uses these executions to instill fear, targeting "young, brave Iranians." Currently, eight women across Iran face capital punishment on security or protest-related charges, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists .
