More than one of the two adults in the European Union had weight problems in 2025, shows the latest data published by Eurostat. The proportion of overweight people reached 51.7% at the level of the Community bloc, while Romania was among the countries with the lowest levels of obesity.
Portugal, according to the EU statistical office, last year had 17% of obese people, i.e. people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more.
Last year, the proportion of overweight residents in the European Union exceeded half of the population, reaching record values; obesity in the European Union has reached its peak since 2017, transmitting the RIA News.
