Ogun, NNPC Partner to Revive OKLNG as $7bn Port, Marine Economy Project Takes Shape

The project could supply gas to industries and communities across Ogun and the South-West, while the broader corridor is expected to draw more than $7 billion.

  • On Wednesday, Governor Dapo Abiodun hosted Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited officials in Abeokuta to discuss reviving the long-delayed Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas project in Ogun Waterside.
  • The initiative follows last week's signing of Memoranda of Understanding with DP World for the $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and 10,000-hectare Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
  • NNPC Executive Vice President Lekan Ogunleye stated the project requires approximately 1,728 hectares and about 2.5 kilometres of Atlantic frontage for LNG infrastructure and jetties.
  • Abiodun committed the state to providing land and guarantees for the facility, which aims to supply gas to industries within the Economic Zone and communities across the wider South-West.
  • These combined projects aim to create an integrated ecosystem linking energy supply with maritime access, connecting the corridor to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and wider African markets.
