Ocean overwash reported in Buxton; Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry operations suspended

Ocean overwash was reported on N.C. Highway 12 in northern Buxton at around 12 p.m. Monday, roughly three hours before the afternoon high tide. Additional overwash is possible at other hot spots along N.C. Highway 12 as high tide approaches, including Pea Island, north of Hatteras Village, and northern Ocracoke Island.
