NYSP asks public to submit security footage in search for homicide suspect

Anthony Bechand was arrested after a nearly two-week manhunt involving over 100 officers and multiple agencies in the Adirondacks, following the stabbing death of Amanda Rodriguez.

  • Anthony Bechand, a 53-year-old homicide suspect from Cohoes, was arrested near Paul Smith's College after a 12-day manhunt in Franklin County.
  • The search was launched after 41-year-old Amanda Rodriguez was discovered murdered by stabbing in her Cohoes residence on September 14, with suspect Bechand fleeing the location and leaving his vehicle behind in Brighton.
  • State, local, and federal law enforcement agencies carried out extensive organized searches across heavily wooded areas, covering hundreds of miles with the assistance of helicopters, drones, and canine units, while also interviewing residents at over 240 homes.
  • Authorities reported that Bechand is about 5'11" in height, has brown hair and hazel eyes, and warned that he may be armed and dangerous. A reward of $5,000 has been offered for any information leading to his capture.
  • Bechand is now in custody at Ray Brook Barracks for questioning, and police continue to request public assistance through tips and security footage to support the investigation.
