- On Wednesday, the New York Stock Exchange and Blockchain.com signed a memorandum of understanding to explore offering tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs through NYSE's digital alternative trading system, subject to regulatory approval.
- The partnership capitalizes on growing tokenized asset adoption, with the Citi Institute forecasting a $5.5 trillion market by 2030. Blockchain.com described the deal as "a bet by both parties on where capital markets are heading."
- Peter Smith, Blockchain.com Executive Chairman, CEO, and Co-Founder, stated people "shouldn't be limited in owning stocks based on where they happen to live." Blockchain.com serves more than 44 million confirmed accounts across over 70 jurisdictions.
- Wednesday's announcement arrived six days after the Securities and Exchange Commission granted a five-year exemption for onchain venues. Intercontinental Exchange, NYSE's parent, previously partnered with Securitize and OKX to develop tokenization infrastructure.
- The integration aims to offer 24/7 trading and faster onchain settlement compared to traditional equity markets. However, the companies have not yet disclosed which countries will launch the tokenized products.
