Northern Ireland hit by fourth night of clashes
Police in Northern Ireland revealed on Thursday that amid the unrest in Ballymena, some foreign individuals sought refuge inside wardrobes and attics to avoid the turmoil following recent protests and violence.
The disturbances began Monday evening following the detention of two teenagers connected to an alleged sexual assault on a young girl, leading to three consecutive nights of racially charged protests.
Police condemned the riots as malicious and racially driven criminal acts, responding by deploying additional officers, including reinforcements from Police Scotland.
The disorder injured 41 police officers, caused property damage chiefly on Clonavon Road, and led to 13 arrests, with police calling for an end to the violence and warning of prosecutions.
The events highlight deep community tensions and prompt political condemnation, as police and officials urge calm and stress the positive contributions of foreign nationals.
