All eyes on the Currywurst! The city of Duisburg celebrates the inventor of the Pottschlager. In Berlin, however, this is quite different.
When two are fighting, the third is happy: Hamburg and Berlin are actually dueling about who invented the currywurst. And now that: In Duisburg the German body dish is supposed to have been created! And the inventor - he was afraid of the Gestapo because of his sausage.
The history of German cuisine is being rewritten: the currywurst is a culinary invention from Duisburg – not from Berlin. It was first served in 1936 in Peter Pomm such as the Pusztetten-Stube, where today a memorial plaque reminds of it. The dish was also forgotten because of the Nazis.
"Peter Pomms Puszettenstube" in Duisburg is now officially home to the Currywurst. A plaque at the snack bar indicates this.
