- Despite participating, Pyongyang has recently criticized Japan, a former regional colonial power, over what it describes as the country's remilitarization.
- The games run from Sept 19 to Oct 4, with more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries expected to participate across Aichi Prefecture and surrounding cities.
