Russia Deploys North Korean Missiles Within Reach of 7 Ukrainian Regions
ISW said the six launchers could fire up to 120 missiles and carry heavier warheads, expanding Russia’s strike options against Ukraine.
- On Friday, the Institute for the Study of War reported Russia deployed six launchers in Voronezh Oblast to expand its use of North Korean ballistic missiles, placing seven Ukrainian regions within range.
- The Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate confirmed on Thursday that North Korea transferred around 50 ballistic missiles, including KN-23, KN-24, and KN-30 variants, to Russia as of July 2026.
- Expert Anatoly Khrapchinsky noted North Korean missiles differ from Russian Iskander-M systems, as KN-23-series warheads weigh up to 1 ton but lack the 5 to 20 meter accuracy of domestic missiles.
- Although the KN-30, or Hwasong-11C, can carry warheads weighing up to 2,500 kilograms , ISW has not observed evidence that Russian forces have used these weapons against Ukraine.
- Targeting Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia, the launchers indicate Russia continues developing methods to integrate North Korean munitions into its strike packages against Ukraine.
