- On Thursday, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority directed Mumbai International Airport Ltd to remove an unauthorized mosque-like structure near Terminal 2, citing lack of required permissions.
- Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya initiated the push after visiting the site on September 3, alleging unauthorized construction near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport constituted "Land JIHAD."
- The authority stated, "MMRDA has not issued any permission for the said structure/Mosque. Further, there is no provision/reservation, allocation, or designation of any site/plot for a place of public worship in the IDP within the said Notified Area."
- Situated near the VIP Arrival and taxi stand area, the facility reportedly evolved from a temporary tin shed into an upgraded structure with air conditioners, flooring, and ablution areas.
- MIAL must now determine whether to remove the structure voluntarily or through administrative action, with Somaiya expecting resolution within two weeks from September 8.
