No F1 power adjustments after latest FIA analysis
The FIA said Red Bull remains the benchmark while Mercedes gets one extra homologation and rivals Audi, Ferrari and Honda stay further behind.
- On Wednesday, the FIA granted Mercedes one additional engine homologation in 2026 and another in 2027, despite leading Formula One championships by a considerable margin. Red Bull's power unit was designated the benchmark.
- The Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities mechanism grants upgrades if ICE performance falls at least 2% below the best-performing engine across defined review periods. Mercedes was adjudged to be within 2-4% of the leading ICE, triggering eligibility.
- Audi, Ferrari, and Honda were assessed more than 4% off the leading ICE and granted two additional homologations in 2026 and two next year. The ADUO is designed to prevent one manufacturer from establishing a significant advantage without rivals being able to respond.
- FIA Director Nikolas Tombazis called the analysis "thorough and exhaustive" and said the governing body is confident in the findings. He added that as this is the first year of The ADUO, the system may evolve through discussions with Manufacturers.
- No additional homologations were granted following the second review period, which ended after the Hungarian Grand Prix. The third review period now runs from the Dutch Grand Prix through the Mexico City GP at the start of November.
