No danger to public safety after CN train derailment in Truro, N.S.
CN said 14 railcars left the tracks and no leaks, fires or injuries were reported as crews worked to reopen the crossing.
A Canadian National Railway train derailed in Truro, Nova Scotia, late Saturday, sending 14 railcars off the tracks and blocking the Queen Street crossing.
No injuries, leaks, or fires have been reported following the incident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Emergency responders and the company arrived on-site shortly after to begin recovery operations.
Three of the derailed railcars contained residual hydrogen peroxide, which the company has safely secured, posing no public safety risk. The remaining 11 railcars were transporting mostly paper-related products.
Truro police issued a traffic alert on Sunday, advising motorists to avoid the Queen Street crossing. A detour remains in place while crews work to clear the site.
Recovery efforts continue as Canadian National Railway investigates the derailment cause and deploys additional resources. The company has not yet announced when the Queen Street crossing will reopen.
