No beef tallow, lard in Tirupati laddus, finds CBI chargesheet; YSRCP demands CM Chandrababu Naidu's clarification
The CBI chargesheet alleges 68 lakh kg of synthetic ghee, valued at over Rs 230 crore, was supplied to Tirupati laddus between 2019 and 2024 without any animal fat.
- On January 23, 2026 the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a final chargesheet saying the ghee used in Tirupati laddus between 2019 and 2024 contained no animal fat and was synthetic.
- The supplier Bhole Baba Organic Dairy is alleged to have procured no milk or butter and operated a 'virtual' manufacturing unit in Bhagwanpur, Uttarakhand, using refined palm oil, palm kernel oil, acetic acid esters, beta carotene and artificial flavouring.
- The SIT named 36 accused, including TTD officials and suppliers, alleging tenders were won using false documentation for over 68 lakh kilograms of ghee valued at more than ₹250 crore.
- Political leaders from multiple parties responded with criticism, and Lella Appireddy demanded police action over defamatory posters in several towns, following the chargesheet's findings.
- A Supreme Court order in October 2024 created the SIT that probed procurement, revealing blacklisting and routing through multiple entities, including a Bhagwanpur, Uttarakhand virtual manufacturing unit.
