Major General (res.) Nitzan Alon, who was tasked with coordinating efforts to secure the hostages' return, said the war in Gaza could have ended sooner without changing its outcome. Some hostages who died in captivity could have been saved, he said
Nitzan Alon, a former member of the Israeli negotiating team, criticized the Netanyahu government for its prolonged resistance to signing a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. Alon said that Israeli prisoners could be released a year early, and that the prolongation of the attacks was leading to loss of life.
