The Nikkei stock index briefly topped the 70,000 line on Monday morning for the first time since early July, as Wall Street gains late last week on fading expectations for a rate hike by the Federal Reserve lifted sentiment.
The Tokyo stock market saw a sharp rebound in the Nikkei 225 average on Monday morning, the 5th. The index rose by more than 1,700 yen at one point, recovering to the 70,000 yen level during trading hours for the first time in three months since July 6th. The rise in US stocks last Friday spilled over into the Tokyo market, leading to buying in technology stocks and driving the market up.
The Nikkei Stock Average briefly recovered to 70,000 yen on the 5th. This is the first time in about three months that stock prices have been in the 70,000 yen range.
