- The Academic Staff Union of Universities suspended its indefinite strike at Plateau State University effective midnight on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, following a successful agreement with the state government.
- Negotiating teams reached a conclusion on six-point demands, including the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme and full implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU agreement with payment of 22 months' arrears.
- Branch chairperson Dr. Vincent D. Choji and secretary Dr. Lomka Iliya Kopdiya signed the statement, while Head of Service Mr. Steven Pam Gadong and union coordinator Professor Aku Timothy Namo led the negotiating teams.
- Simultaneously, ASUU declared an indefinite strike at Lagos State University , Lagos State University of Education , and Lagos State University of Science and Technology over the state government's failure to address similar demands.
- Although the 2025 landmark agreement reduced nationwide strikes through a 40 per cent salary increase, public institutions continue facing systemic challenges including chronic underfunding and brain drain affecting academic quality.
