NIA Court Issues Fresh Warrant Against Lashkar Chief Hafiz Saeed

- On September 8, the Special NIA Court in Jammu issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, alleging he supplies weapons and funds to terrorists operating in the Kashmir Valley.
- The warrant stems from an investigation into the arrest of Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat at Pandach, Srinagar, with the National Investigation Agency describing Saeed as an "absconding accused" evading arrest from Pakistan.
- Police recovered a China-made grenade and 15 live rounds from Bhat, a resident of Batpora, leading to the busting of a network linked to LeT and The Resistance Front , with Bhat booked under the UAPA, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act.
- This is the second warrant issued against Saeed in two months; on July 8, the court issued a separate warrant regarding the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and one local.
- Special Judge under the NIA Act Prem Sagar issued the warrant under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, noting the agency could not secure Saeed's attendance "in the ordinary manner" as he remains at large in Pakistan.
