NextEra Energy, Google Cloud expand deal to add US capacity
NextEra Energy and Google Cloud will develop multiple gigawatt-scale data centers and use AI to improve grid reliability and accelerate energy sector modernization.
- On Dec. 8, 2025, NextEra Energy and Google Cloud announced an expanded collaboration to develop multiple gigawatt-scale data center campuses across the United States, building on their longstanding relationship.
- As U.S. electricity demand hits record highs, NextEra Energy and Google Cloud aim to scale data center capacity and accelerate NextEra's digital transformation using Google Cloud AI.
- The first commercial product is slated for mid-2026 and will be available on Google Cloud Marketplace; the companies are building the first three campuses and operate approximately 3.5 GW capacity, pairing NextEra data with TimesFM 2.5, WeatherNext 2 and power flow modeling.
- NextEra projects it will add 15 gigawatts by 2035, with planned projects including a facility providing 1,450 MW and 13 projects creating up to 2,440 construction jobs.
- Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said, `Working with NextEra Energy to power our infrastructure growth further strengthens our long-standing collaboration and will help us meet increasing demand from our customers as they deploy AI technologies at scale`, and NextEra CEO John Ketchum added, `We are positioning our company around bring-your-own-generation, and we are uniquely positioned to win this`, as NextEra partners with ExxonMobil on an initial 1.2-gigawatt gas plant and expects new natural-gas deals in 12–24 months.
