The Maribor District Court found Matjaž Kovačič and co-defendants Igor Šujica and Boris Cekov guilty of charges related to the granting of bank loans.
After three and a half years since the start of the trial, the verdict against three former executives of Nova KBM and its subsidiaries, including former CEO Matjaž Kovačič, was announced at noon. The court sentenced Kovačič to three years in prison for controversial deals with Croatian real estate.
Courts across the country will continue hearings in several high-profile cases next week. In Maribor, the verdict will be announced against former Nova KBM executives for real estate deals in Croatia, and in Celje, the trial will begin for a July traffic accident on the Styrian highway in which five people died.
