- Advising survivors to exercise caution, the Claims Conference warned against sharing sensitive information with unverified entities. New York's Holocaust Claims Processing Office, or HCPO, provides legitimate assistance without charging fees and has returned more than $184 million in assets.
- A 2013 Justice investigation previously uncovered a decade-long scheme that stole more than $57 million from survivors, resulting in 31 charges, including 10 against former Claims Conference employees.
