Chinese scientists have identified a new virus that can be transmitted to humans through tick bites, and the pathogen is called ALTNV, an Asian long-tailed mite nyrovirus. The study is published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Scientists in China have discovered a new virus called ALTNV that is transmitted from ticks to humans. In research involving more than 3,000 patients, it was determined that the virus can cause fever, severe fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, and low platelet count. While all patients carrying ALTNV alone recovered, 7 out of 38 patients infected with another tick-borne virus died.
Scientists in China studying patients admitted to hospitals with high fever have identified a new virus transmitted by ticks. This pathogen, when combined with the Dabie virus, can lead to fatal organ failure and poses a risk of global invasion.
