Drug-Resistant Fungus Cases Rise in Georgia, CDC Says
Over 3,500 cases of the drug-resistant yeast Candida Auris have been reported across twenty-eight states this year, mostly in healthcare facilities.
As of August 1, 3,544 clinical cases of Candida Auris have been reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, compared with 4,262 cases at the same time last year.
Candida Auris is concerning because it is resistant to multiple antifungal drugs, making it difficult to treat.
In the Southern United States, over 1,400 clinical cases have been reported, with Georgia recording 193 cases, ranking below Texas and Tennessee.
