Astronomers have confirmed Elias 2-24 b, a Jupiter-sized exoplanet less than 1 million years old that is still gathering material from its star's protoplanetary disc.

Astronomers have discovered the youngest planet ever. The planet, named Elias 2-24b, is less than one million years old and orbits a star at a distance of about 450 light years. Elias is surrounded by the gas and dust from which the new star formed. Scientists can now observe from a distance a planet that is still developing.
