New Chief Priest Ikoma's Inauguration Ceremony Held at Yakushiji Temple in Nara (Kyodo News)

On the 1st, a Shinzan-shiki ceremony was held at Yakushiji Temple, the head temple of the Hosso sect of Buddhism in Nara City, to mark the appointment of new abbot Ikoma Mototatsu (62). In front of the approximately 1,100 attendees, Ikoma said, "I feel the weight of responsibility." As the sound of bells echoed throughout the temple grounds, Ikoma, accompanied by about 20 monks, proceeded to a special stage in front of the main hall.
