With their new album, Neurosis surprised everyone last March. However, there were good reasons for the lack of announcement in advance. Neurosis have had hard times as a band. In 2019, the band quietly separated from then singer and co-founder Scott Kelly. It was not until 2022 that Kelly himself announced the end of his music career after he had confessed to having abused his wife and children for years in a variety of ways.
