Nestle's low-fat dairy whitener sample found 'unsafe' in India, says regulator

- Following the laboratory analysis, the FSSAI directed Bharat Hotels Ltd to immediately stop selling the product and issued a formal notice for non-compliance under the FSS Act.
- Defending the product, Nestle India stated it is 'safe to consume' and attributed elevated phosphorus to naturally occurring levels in milk-based ingredients, not added phosphorus.
- In September, the FSSAI identified a Nestle baby food sample as 'substandard,' prompting ongoing legal measures against the Swiss food giant in one of its major growth markets.
- While Nestle engages with authorities sharing product data, The Lalit did not respond to requests for comment regarding the incident at its Connaught Place location.
