- Flash floods triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26 left more than 1,300 dead and around 5,000 missing across northern and central Nepal.
- Resigned to her death, about 60 relatives conducted a symbolic cremation for Shrestha; locals heard faint cries from the buried structure, carried about 200 metres downstream by the deluge.
- Shrestha's recovery marked the second improbable rescue on Saturday; earlier, a joint team found a Chinese worker trapped in a 225-metre tunnel at Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project.
- Following her rescue, Shrestha is being treated for a leg infection at the Nepali Army's Maithili Barracks in Trishuli, while her survival has injected renewed hope into the devastated town of Bidur.
