Avdalas Scores 30 as Virginia Tech Pushes Past Western Carolina 96-74

Thursday in Cassell Coliseum, Neoklis Avdalas scored 30 points to lead Virginia Tech Hokies men's basketball team to a 96-74 victory over Western Carolina Catamounts.
With a 53-34 halftime lead, Avdalas took over offensively in the second half after scoring six in the first half, following Virginia Tech's 19-for-33 first-half shooting.
The Hokies' long-range accuracy included 13-for-27 three-point shooting with Avdalas hitting four 3-pointers and Amani Hansberry adding 18 points, six assists and six rebounds, and Mike Young said, `This team has shot the ball well`.
Virginia Tech will play Maryland Eastern on Dec. 14, with freshmen centers Antonio Dorn and Christian Gurdak splitting time for injured Virginia Tech center Tobi Lawal as rebounding remains a concern despite a 36-34 edge.
Marcus Kell scored 22 points for Western Carolina, which shot 42% and went 18 for 30 at the free-throw line; the Catamounts travel to Georgia on Dec. 18.
