Exclusive: Romania's President Dan pushes for Moldova and Ukraine’s EU bid, challenging Hungary
In a joint interview with Euronews and Euronews Romania, Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced that technical negotiations for Moldova’s EU accession will begin following a pro-European vote, despite Hungary’s veto on Ukraine.
The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are already ready to open cluster 1 – “Fundamental values” – in the context of accession negotiations to the European Union (EU), Ukraine's President Volodimir Zelenski, in his online intervention from the European Council meeting, stressed that both states “have demonstrated firmly the European option”.
The President of the European Parliament, Robert Metsol, said that negotiations on Ukraine's and Moldova's accession to the EU should begin before the end of this year. During her contacts with journalists prior to the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, she noted that the Kremlin had not received the result of interference in the Moldovan elections, transmitting "Ucrinform."
