RTÉ to Broadcast Katie Taylor Fight at Croke Park
RTÉ will show the farewell bout on RTÉ2, RTÉ Player and 2FM after securing rights with DAZN, reaching a sold-out crowd of 80,000.
On Wednesday, national broadcaster RTÉ announced it secured free-to-air rights for Katie Taylor's farewell fight against Flora Pili at Croke Park on September 5.
Taylor, 39, competes for the vacant WBC Super Lightweight Championship at a sold-out venue that has not hosted professional boxing since Muhammad Ali defeated Al "Blue" Lewis in 1972.
RTÉ Head of Sport Declan McBennett confirmed the deal following months of negotiations with DAZN and Matchroom Boxing, though he declined to disclose the cost, citing it as "commercially sensitive."
The agreement enables 80,000 fans to watch free of charge, fulfilling what McBennett described as the broadcaster's duty to "reflect national moments" for this historic occasion.
Taylor called the event "the fairytale ending I always wanted," viewing this bout as a chance to open doors for the next generation of female fighters.
