Quilpituk Creek Wildfire Is Reported Under Control: BCWS
Crews are mopping up hotspots and securing power lines as 90 firefighters, four helicopters and 10 heavy equipment units remain on scene.
- The BC Wildfire Service reported the 1,275.7-hectare Quilpituk Creek wildfire is now under control as of Tuesday, Aug. 18, while both it and the 2,658.1-hectare Bradley Creek wildfire remain being held.
- Both blazes are suspected to be human-caused, with Bradley Creek discovered on July 31 and Quilpituk Creek on Aug. 1; these remain among 45 wildfires currently being held in B.C.
- On Monday, BCWS deployed 90 firefighters, four helicopters, and 10 pieces of heavy equipment between the two sites to assess danger trees and address residual heat.
- Crews are performing mop-up duties along Westside Road, working approximately 100 ft inside the fire perimeter to extinguish remaining heat; BC Hydro remains on scene securing power lines.
- Evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect for areas near Irish Creek Road and Komasket Road, and the BCWS reminds residents to report drones or UAVs by calling *5555.
