NDLEA Intercepts N6.2bn Worth of 'Jihadi Drug' in Ghana Soap
NDLEA said the captagon was hidden in soap and the opioid tablets were worth more than N4.6 billion after a joint airport inspection.
- On Saturday, August 22, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency seized 47,200 pills of Captagon concealed in soap blocks at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, following the arrest of 49-year-old cross-border drug kingpin Akinbile Kazeem Aikins.
- Separately, NDLEA officers recovered more than 3.9 million opioid tablets valued at over N6.2 billion from four abandoned consignments at the MMIA import shed, which authorities formally examined on Friday, August 28.
- Regional operations yielded substantial results: Delta State teams recovered more than 176,000 opioid pills, Rivers State operatives opened a fireproof safe containing 316 grams of cocaine and 10 grams of heroin, and Ondo State officers intercepted 728kg of skunk.
- NDLEA Chairman Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the enforcement teams and directed operatives to maintain momentum against traffickers while the agency sustained its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaigns throughout the week.
- Traffickers increasingly devise new concealment methods, including hiding illicit substances in everyday household items such as soap, prompting Marwa to direct operatives to sustain enforcement pressure at Nigeria's entry points.
