NDLEA arrests 101-year-old woman retailing cannabis, recover cocaine concealed inside fufu

NDLEA said the seizures included 1,490.5kg of Thai Loud, 42.622kg of narcotics and multiple arrests in nationwide operations.

  • On August 15, NDLEA operatives arrested 101-year-old Esther Ogunmabo in Ilisan, Ogun State, for allegedly selling 90 grammes of skunk packed in retail sachets.
  • Ogunmabo reportedly told operatives that she turned to selling cannabis after a fire destroyed her provisions shop, with her daughter in Lagos allegedly supplying the substance every four days.
  • On Friday, the agency intercepted N4.4 billion worth of Thai Loud at Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos, representing the first recorded interception of illicit drugs shipped from Thailand through the maritime corridor.
  • NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and referred for counselling due to her advanced age. Her daughter was subsequently arrested for allegedly supplying the cannabis.
  • This arrest adds to recent NDLEA operations targeting elderly Nigerians, including two men aged 84 and 75 arrested in Abia State in June for allegedly supplying drugs to secondary school students. The agency continues its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse campaigns.
