NCAA agrees to deal to promote championship events and could lead to NIL money for athletes
Playfly will sell local sponsorship packages around NCAA championships, and the new revenue could help cover tournament costs and support student-athlete benefits.
The NCAA and Playfly Sports announced on Thursday a partnership to sell local sponsorship packages for championship events, opening doors to marketing opportunities including possible NIL deals for student-athletes.
An amendment to the TV contract following the expansion of the Men tournament to 76 teams enabled the NCAA to seek new revenue sources from its biggest events.
Playfly will hire staff to sell local sponsorships near tournament sites, complementing the national Corporate Champions and Partners Program managed by CBS Sports and TNT Sports.
NCAA President Charlie Baker said the team valuation work was impressive, while Christy Hedgpeth, president of Playfly Sports Properties, emphasized the collaboration provides a unique opportunity to drive new income.
The NCAA will use new revenue to cover tournament expenses, enhance the student-athlete experience, or return funds to member schools, strengthening the organization amid evolving college athletics.
