Hornets' Moussa Diabate Wins NBA Hustle Award
Diabaté ranked top 11 in six hustle categories and posted career highs after becoming a full-time starter, the league said.
On Thursday, the NBA announced Charlotte Hornets forward Moussa Diabaté as the winner of the Hustle Award, which honors players for effort plays that drive team success.
Unlike most league awards decided by voting, the Hustle Award uses a ranking system tracking nine statistics; Diabaté ranked among the top 11 in six categories, including offensive box-outs.
Averaging career highs of 7.9 points and 8.7 rebounds in 73 games as a starter, Diabaté was described by NBA.com writer Brian Martin as a "key pillar of their foundation for the future."
Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels finished second, followed by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Memphis Grizzlies guard Cedric Coward, and New York Knicks guard Josh Hart.
The Hornets improved from a 9-20 start through December to win 44 games and reach the play-in tournament, with Diabaté's emergence driving a 25-win improvement from last season.
