Mark Cuban Joins Ownership Group of Canadian Basketball League Team
The former Dallas Mavericks owner said he wants to help build the Brampton fanbase and bring championship experience to the CEBL club.
- On Thursday, American entrepreneur Mark Cuban purchased an ownership stake in the Brampton Honey Badgers, the Canadian Elite Basketball League team announced.
- Cuban reunites with Brampton Honey Badgers CEO Al Whitley, a longtime Mavericks executive with whom he shares a 25-year relationship. Anthem Sports owner Leonard Asper facilitated the partnership.
- Known for his 13 years on Shark Tank and leadership during the Dallas Mavericks' 2011 NBA championship, Cuban brings extensive experience to the organization. He praised the league talent as "through the roof."
- "No one brings more basketball knowledge and winning culture than Mark," said Asper, while Whitley called the investment a "historic and landmark day" for the franchise.
- The Brampton Honey Badgers begin their 2026 campaign on May 15 against the Ottawa BlackJacks at the CAA Centre. The league features 70 per cent Canadian players, the highest proportion in any professional league.
