- On Saturday, Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, announced he will forgo the recently hiked LoP salary and allowances and asked Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, to utilise the funds for welfare of poor people, posting the letter on X.
- The Odisha Legislative Assembly passed a bill hiking salaries of MLAs and ministers by over 200%, with Chief Minister package ₹3.74 lakh and Leader of Opposition remuneration ₹3.62 lakh, effective June 5, 2024.
- Invoking his family's past donation, Naveen Patnaik said his decision draws from the 2015 gift of Anand Bhawan, ancestral property in Cuttack, and his late father Biju Patnaik's Re 1 salary from 1990–1995.
- The passage drew limited dissent in the Assembly on December 9, 2025, while BJP MLA Babu Singh from Bhubaneswar-Ekaamra pledged to donate his enhanced pay and only Laxman Munda, lone CPI MLA, opposed the bill.
